Medieval Sauran was located in a vast farming area and there probably were a lot of homesteads surrounded by gardens and vineyards. The people of the city would buy their food from the local markets. The markets would always be crowded since Sauran was situated on the Great Silk Road and lots of caravans used to pass through the city.

The city was surrounded by the fortress wall and a wide moat. In the middle of the city there was a large square, a medrese with two minarets and a mosque. People would gather there for their prayers.
